The gist: five weeknight shows, four networks, and a CBS slot that no longer belongs to a talk show at all. That last part is the biggest change to this grid in thirty years.

Which late-night shows are still on the air in 2026?

Four of the traditional hosted hours survive: Fallon and Meyers on NBC, Kimmel on ABC, and The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live is the fifth, though at 30 minutes it plays by different rules.

All four of the weeknight shows now run Monday through Thursday. Fallon dropped new Friday episodes back in 2024 and has made only occasional exceptions since, such as the night of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony in February.

What happened to The Late Show on CBS?

It ended on May 21, 2026, and CBS retired the franchise rather than recasting it. Stephen Colbert's eleven seasons and David Letterman's twenty-two closed out a 33-year run, and the network called the decision a financial one.

The slot went to Byron Allen's company the following night. Comics Unleashed took 11:35 and the comedy game show Funny You Should Ask took 12:35 — cheaper programming for an hour that had become expensive.

Why does everything seem to be a repeat right now?

Summer breaks got longer in 2026. Fallon, Kimmel and The Daily Show were all dark for stretches of August, returning together on Sept. 8, and Seth Meyers took seven weeks — the longest planned hiatus since Late Night launched in 2014, with new episodes resuming Sept. 21.

The rhythm to remember: these shows tape the day they air, so a repeat usually means the studio is empty that week, not that a single night fell through.

Broadcast late night is tape-delayed on the West Coast, so Los Angeles and New York see the same clock time while Chicago and Denver run an hour earlier. Cable works the opposite way: Comedy Central and Bravo carry East and West feeds, which is why The Daily Show hits 11 p.m. in both coasts and 10 p.m. in the middle of the country.

Where does each show stream the next day?

NBC's pair goes to Peacock, Kimmel to Hulu, The Daily Show to Paramount+, and WWHL to Peacock. None of them hold a full episode back longer than a day, and the shows' own YouTube channels post individual segments overnight for free.

Our guide to watching without cable goes through which subscription covers what, and where an antenna is enough.

Is late night shrinking?

By any count you like, yes. Ten years ago the 11:35 hour held three hosted talk shows across NBC, ABC and CBS; it now holds two, and CBS's replacement programming costs a fraction of what a staffed monologue does.

The four-night week is the second squeeze. Between dropped Fridays and longer summers, a show that once made roughly 170 new episodes a year now makes closer to 140, and the gaps land in exactly the weeks when viewers go looking.

What has not changed is the shape of a night: a monologue, a desk piece, two guests and a band. Every show on this grid still runs that structure, which is why a guest booking is still the thing worth knowing in advance.

What about the weekly shows?

Real Time with Bill Maher holds Fridays on HBO. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returns Sundays from Sept. 20, and Saturday Night Live opens its 52nd season on Sept. 26.

Those three follow their own calendars, which is worth knowing in a week when the weeknight shows are dark and these are not.
